Announced in the 2024 National Budget of Zambia, the country will shortly introduce an e-invoicing system (Smart Invoices) to manage all invoices data transmitted to ZRA (Zambia Revenue Authority ) by taxpayers.

Smart Invoice e-invoicing system is accessible via a web portal, or via software installed on desktops and laptops. Users can create, customize, and manage transactions locally on their own devices using the e-invoicing system.

Taxpayers with large invoicing needs may integrate with Smart Invoice following ZRA approval. QR codes will be generated on each Smart Invoice, which can be scanned with any mobile device to verify the invoice.

The Smart Invoices program will be implemented as a pilot program before being fully implemented. It is not yet known when the pilot phase will begin.
