In January 2026, the Department of War (DoW) formalized its priorities for artificial intelligence adoption, and one of its directives is Speed Wins.
The strategy recognizes that in an increasingly contested environment, the cost of moving too slowly may exceed the risks associated with deploying imperfect AI systems. Rather than allowing lengthy procurement, testing, and approval cycles to delay innovation, the Department is prioritizing deployment velocity as a key operational metric.
However, while the strategy emphasizes rapid AI adoption, it provides limited guidance on how organizations can translate this urgency into sustainable operational advantage rather than increased technical, operational, or governance risk.

Moving faster only matters if what arrives faster is a decision worth acting on.
