The VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) has set the foundation for EU countries to consider their own e-invoicing and e-reporting practices. If countries have earlier been slow to respond to the developing e-invoicing trajectory in Europe, ViDA will have accelerated countries in reviewing their own e-invoicing and e-reporting practices and procedures.

Latvia is the latest country to announce an e-invoicing mandate.

Currently, more definitive plans around the e-invoicing mandate are yet to be announced, but the mandate is expected to revolve around both B2B and B2G transactions, with PEPPOL playing an active role in the mandate.

Work relating to the mandate is expected to commence soon, but the mandate is expected to take effect from 2025.
